Tooth Whitening Information

Tooth Whitening/Bleaching is a process available at our Ideal Dental Care branches (Cleveleys, Fleetwood, Poulton-le-Fylde and Sheffield). Tooth whitening is a relatively simple process that can given dramatic results in the appearance (aesthetics) of your teeth.

Teeth are naturally a yellow or greyish colour which become darker as we get older. Food and drink such as red wine, coffee and smoking cigarettes can also cause our teeth to become darker. This naturally ages the smile of patients, and can cause embarassment and loss of confidence.

Tooth whitening will lighten the colour of your teeth without having more complicated work such as veneers or crowns. The degree of whiteness achieved will vary from patient to patient and with the type of bleaching process chosen. Tooth whitening can also hide malaligned teeth(crooked teeth) and make overcrowded teeth seem less noticable. A whiter smile can boost a patient's confidence and make hiding your smile a thing of the past.

Tooth Whitening Procedure

At your tooth whitening consultation, your dentist will take your tooth colour shade and discuss the tooth colour shade you would like to achieve. At the next step in tooth whitening your dentist will take an impression of your teeth in order to make a custom-made tooth whitening tray in order to bleach/whiten your teeth. 

The dentist will give you detailed instructions on how to place the whitening gel in the tooth whitening tray. You will then wear the tray containing the bleach every night for 2-4 weeks after which you will notice your teeth start to lighten, brighten and whiten.

Your dentist will give you instruction of which foods/drinks to avoid during the tooth whitening process. Pre existing composite fillings, veneers, crowns and bridges you may have will not lighten with the bleach but these can be changed to match your new tooth colour.
